REI Ad Campaign

Spec Ad: together with Minneapolis graphic designer Anna Egelhoff, I created a speculative ad campaign in the style of REI Co-op. Much like #ForceOfNature, #OutsideWithPride, and #OptOutside, #NothingButFootprints combines social and environmental consciousness with gear and service marketing. Sometimes playful, sometimes powerful, the voice throughout the campaign achieves the overarching goal: community-building. Materials include a landing page, an email, and Instagram posts.

Do More 24

Each year, United Way of the National Capital Area hosts a 24 hour online fundraising platform called Do More 24, offering nonprofits in the DC area greater publicity. I wrote all of the copy for this nonprofit’s campaign, which centered on an initiative called Bring The Bus. All funds went towards providing bus transportation to students in underfunded schools for the opportunity to participate in arts-centered field trips.

Grant Proposal

¡Óyeme! is a multifaceted program that brings Central American refugee children together to overcome trauma and share their stories with the world, all through the medium of theatre. This successful grant proposal I wrote for ¡Óyeme! earned the program $10,000 in funding. Sensitive information has been redacted.

Annual Report

The goal of this brochure was to sum up the client’s programming and financials over fiscal year 2017 for an audience of potential and current donors. My role was to compile the information from accounting and records to create a story. Aside from the organization’s preexisting mission and vision statements, all of the writing in the brochure is my original copy.

Foundation Website

The Odeh & Jamileh Akkawi Foundation raises funds to support Arab and Arab American students to become community leaders. Scholarship recipients work closely with a mentor to find extracurricular opportunities that help further their goals. I built this site from scratch on the Squarespace platform and continue to add to it as the foundation grows.

About me

One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.

Challenge me with your most difficult creative problems.

My success grows from adaptability, desire to learn, and resourcefulness under pressure. As a nonprofit fundraiser, my most effective writing stemmed from the difficulty of converting new donors and foundations. Bringing a contagious positive attitude into every team is almost as important as the writing itself.

My life as a writer began with fiction at a very young age and evolved with my understanding of the influence of words in all aspects of life. My experience with research, scripts, grants, financial reports, and even poetry informs my carefully crafted copy. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English from Carleton College in 2016, and I have continued to expand my craft ever since.

After fundraising and marketing in Washington D.C., I challenged myself to hike all 2,652 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in six months. Now, I live in remote Telluride, Colorado, freelancing while enjoying some of the best views in the country.
